Posting Expires: 8/9/24 -Salary Range: $62,988.03-$104,980.10General Description and Classification StandardsProtects Watershed or Aviation department by ensuring compliance with federal, state, regional, and local laws, rules, regulations and requirements. - Ensures the maintenance of surface water quality for the benefit of public infrastructure and the natural environment. Duties include but are not limited to: compiling data; generating reports; coordinating programs; reviewing and analyzing legal and financial issues pertinent to the environmental office; drafting environmental grants and coordinating public information. This is a highly experienced professional in environmental monitoring and assessment who routinely exercises project leadership over complex projects, trains other professionals, and/or serves as a specialized subject matter expert in one or more specific areas. This is NOT a routine promotional level and the specific justification for classification at this level must be documented.Supervision ReceivedDirection received is very general and focuses on end results and is typically collaborative in nature. Position plans own work and project schedules and sequences. -Essential Duties & Responsibilities -These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be -construed as exclusive or all inclusive. - May perform other duties as assigned. -

  • Responds to requests for information or follow-up from Commissioner's Office, concerning pending projects, GAWP (Georgia Association of Water Professionals) meetings, staff problem events, and tracking of various activities.
  • Performs administrative duties such as: establishing schedules, priorities, and standards for the organization, reviewing operations for efficiency and ability to achieve objectives, and preparing financial, budgetary, and operating reports.
  • Maintains testing program review and monitors trends. - Reviews construction plans and appropriate water quality data; may also review related air quality data or other environmental concerns. -
  • Coordinates with state, federal, and other governmental officials to assess impact of programs established by the City of Atlanta. Monitors work objectives and performance of staff in achieving compliance goals.
  • Coordinates various programs relating to conservation efforts, including recycling programs, energy conservation, and other environmental issues.
  • Serves as City of Atlanta representative with private companies, agencies, and committees on environmental issues.
  • Serves as liaison between Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Division (EPD) and the City of Atlanta.
  • Serves as custodian of Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District Action Items with the City of Atlanta. - - - This includes ensuring the City of Atlanta is up-to-date with all the required Action Items.
  • Knowledge of stormwater activities, and MS4 Annual Reports.
  • Assists Director in the management of staff associated with Environmental compliance projects. Coordinates activities of personnel involved in watershed compliance enforcement for the City of Atlanta.
  • NPDES Permitting knowledge. -Decision MakingInterprets organizational policies and recommends exceptions. Establishes work methods, timetables, performance standards, etc.Leadership ProvidedHas formal supervisory authority over work group (typically at least 4 -5 employees) to include discipline.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities -This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to -perform the job successfully. - It is not an exhaustive list. -
    • Knowledge of Chemistry, Biology or Environmental Engineering; knowledge of construction as well as environmental laws, regulations and terminology.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills; strong math skills; skill in operating a computer and software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; Good problem solving and time management skills.
    • Ability to read engineering plans; ability to handle multiple tasks, ability to work under pressure; ability to plan, organize, and complete assigned tasks on time; ability to think creatively to solve problems; ability to work and coordinate with various government agencies; ability to comprehend and apply regulations and procedures of the -department.
